Tullyboy Animal Farm

Throughout history, farm families have always been representative of the Irish culture and a central part of the warmth and charm of Irish life. Visit the Tullyboy Animal Farm and you will spend a day connecting with the tradition and customs of Ireland’s agricultural past. The farm has all the necessary ingredients for an excellent family outing – it’s fun and educational for the children, and interesting and relaxing for the adults.

At its scenic location on the plains of Boyle, this working dairy farm features both modern and antiquated milking methods and equipment, as well as demonstrations. The 18th century farmhouse bustles with the activity of the kitchen museum, where you can observe the churning of butter and the baking of fresh bread. The museum features various displays of agricultural equipment as well as information about the effects of the Famine on this primarily rural area.

The farm owners – Matt and Eileen O’Dowd – provide personal tours to visitors, and hold a Barn Dance and Threshing Weekend every year. They will guide you through demonstrations and displays that show the true essence of life on the farm, including sheep shearing, cow milking, and the bottle-feeding of adorable lambs.

Enjoy a leisurely time observing, petting, and feeding over 30 different kinds of animals, such as deer, ostriches, pigs, and horses. Then have a leisurely picnic in the orchard, or relax with refreshments in the authentic old-fashioned coffee shop and restaurant, located in one of the attractive limestone buildings situated around the farm.

Family members of all ages will enjoy a walk on the nature trail that features views of Clogher Lake. Visit the farm’s duck pond, and relax while the children romp on the playground.

Getting There:
Take the Sligo/Boyle road – the N4 – northwest out of Carrick-on-Shannon and continue for about 5km, where it is well signposted.
